The Small Hand by
Susan Hill
My rating:
4 of 5 stars
Although it is meant to be a ghost story, I personally found that there wasn't really much of a scare factor, maybe a small chill at knowing why the ghost wants to pull the main character towards water all the time.
The small hand is the first book that I have read by Susan Hill, and I must admit, it was a little hard to understand some parts. The main character, Adam Snow, I didn't actually know was a man until chapter three when we were introduced to two other characters within the book. (Something I admit, sometimes I don't read the blurb, if I had, I would've known it was a man from the start)
As much as I wanted to dislike it more, I couldn't, the book was put together and as much as some parts didn't make all that much sense and felt like it jumped, there was other parts which flowed near perfectly. The only thing I have to say that I didn't like was the way it was left about the old lady, was she a ghost? Or was she actually a real, living, breathing person?
The small hand is a short story, perfect for those times where you want a quick read and nothing too heavy. Others may find it more spooky and spine tingling than myself, so don't let my review put you off, pick the book up for yourself and decide on how you think.
